The Reagans will gather around their family dinner table one last time as fans bid farewell to Blue Bloods after 14 seasons.

The CBS drama premiered in 2010, documenting the lives of Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his law enforcement family.

In addition to the family patriarch, former Commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) a.k.a. Pops, Frank has three children: Detective Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), ADA Erin (Bridget Moynahan) and officer Jamie (Will Estes). Frank also shared son Joe with his late wife, but he died in the line of duty before the events of season 1.

CBS announced in November 2023 that the 14th and final season would be broken into two parts. Part 1 concluded in May and part 2 kicked off in October. The eight-episode final stretch comes to a conclusion in December — and Us has all the details about the series finale episode.

“The last scene, of course, was at a funeral, and so we weren’t even in the house the day that we wrapped it up,” Cariou told TVLine in November. “I was finished that day myself and several of the others, Tom’s group of guys, Bridget and Steve [Schirripa], and the others, they were done that day, too, before the rest of the episode was finished.”

He recalled the last day of filming as “kind of strange in that sense, just like any other day, any other week. And we had just kind of gotten used to the fact that we had said our goodbyes, if you will, with not a lot of emotional times together.”

“I cried when I read the last episode,” Hawk, who plays Abigail Baker, exclusively told Us Weekly in October. “There is sadness, there is joy and it is all wrapped up in the same beautiful final moments.”

She teased, “It’s gonna be the best kind of heartbreak and the worst kind of joy.” Hawk insisted, “There will be satisfaction” for fans of Commissioner Reagan and his loved ones, noting there’s “no definitive ending.”

Selleck has been vocal over his disappointment of the show being canceled, telling TV Insider in October, “I’m kind of frustrated.” He explained, “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

Selleck is still coping with the show’s end especially since he said it was “taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”

He confessed, “It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out. I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Donnie Wahlberg Recalls Filming Last Scene

Wahlberg detailed his final day on set, noting the most surprising part was that Selleck stopped by to watch his last scene.

“He was there watching. I looked across the room and saw him standing there,” Wahlberg recalled during an October appearance on the Today show. “Tom he’s a really serious and focused man. He likes to cover up his emotions. He doesn’t like to show vulnerability.”

Selleck, however, changed his tune while observing Wahlberg’s performance. “I looked across and he had tears in his eyes,” Wahlberg said. “That memory for me still brings up a lot for me.”

Wahlberg concluded that he doesn’t want to say he’s “sad” after the show’s end, but confessed it’s “emotional.”

Moynahan confirmed in September that the series finale will include one last meal together. “There’s some nice revelations in that last episode of season 14 that wrap up at that family dinner,” she told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “For us to go out on such a special family dinner on our last episode, I think will resonate with the fans. Fans will really get a kick out of some of ’em. And then there might be a surprise that isn’t so hopeful.”

Hawk exclusively told Us that her character didn’t make the cut for the last dinner, joking, “I’m super pissed about it and it’s fine.” That actress revealed in October that Sid Gormley (Robert Clohessy) was also left out.

“The Reagans are just people who understand that family is everything and that no matter what’s going on, you still have to eat,” Hawk shared, noting that the finale will come “full circle” for the group.
