Kelly Rizzo is looking back at the fond memories she made with late husband Bob Saget for their last Thanksgiving together.

“He just loved being the dad that was cooking the turkey,” Rizzo, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the release of her cookbook, Comfort Food, and the launch of her online community, Comfort Club. “And we’d all kind of make fun of him because somehow he knew what he was doing.”

Rizzo noted that Saget’s methods in the kitchen would be “so random and haphazard” when preparing the big meal, but while the Saget family was skeptical at times, it would all work out miraculously.

“He would just take every sauce from the fridge and just throw it on the turkey, and then somehow it came out OK,” she recalled. “But he also kind of had no idea what he was doing, and he was so hilarious about it.”

In addition to preparing the turkey, Rizzo remembered watching Saget happily perform “his little Thanksgiving rituals” which the group would lovingly “make fun of him” for.

“Thanksgiving was Bob’s favorite holiday,” she told Us before opening up about her first celebration since his death in January 2022. “And the first Thanksgiving after losing Bob, I spent it with his entire family, his daughter, Lara, his nephew, Adam, his ex-wife, Sherri and my family. We all spent it together, which was really, really nice.” (Saget was previously married to Sherri Kramer and the pair share daughters Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer.)

Rizzo added that spending the holiday with family was really important to Saget so she wanted to make sure she kept the tradition alive in his honor.

“I know that would make him so happy to know that we’re all together,” she reflected, adding it is a “luxury” she remains close to his family.

Rizzo explained that she knows that she’s lucky to have such a strong support system by her side and acknowledged that it can be harder for others coping with their grief.

“I know how fortunate I am, not only is there such a strong support system in my family, but also in Bob’s Family. I’ve never felt like I can’t just be who I need to be in the moment whatever emotions come up,” she told Us. “But I know some people might not have that, you know, luxury or be as fortunate. So I would just say to do everything you can to at least be around somebody who makes you feel like you’re in a solid place, and that if you need to, you need to cry, if you need to be sad, that you can feel comfortable doing that.”

While Rizzo said she still misses Saget often, she doesn’t want others to walk around on eggshells around her — or feel uncomfortable bringing the Full House alum up in conversation.

“I want to talk about Bob. I always want to talk about Bob,” she confessed. “Even if it makes me sad, it still makes me happy to be able to talk about him and to know the things about him.”

One method that has helped Rizzo with her grief is creating her online community, Comfort Club, which helps others navigate grief or a challenging life transition.

Kelly Rizzo has found healing in her new relationship with actor Breckin Meyer. Bob Saget’s widow revealed to E! News in an interview published on Monday, October 21, that she and Meyer, 50, often talk about her late husband, who died in January 2022, which has helped her grieve the Full House star’s loss. “He’s […]

“This platform is really its own social media network, which is really cool. No other type you know, if you’re on Patreon or anything like that, you don’t really have that community aspect,” she told Us. “So people can really meet new people, who can then help each other.”

In addition to chatting with others in similar situations, she’s also going to bring in special guests, like Jana Kramer, to chat in live sessions with the members. Comfort Club also features a special monthly event called Comfort Food Sundays, where Rizzo shares and makes a recipe with the group.

Rizzo’s cookbook, Comfort Food with Kelly Rizzo, is available now.
