My wife and I recently moved into a bigger townhouse, and we both agreed that we need to be a bit more organized. However, the number of options you can shop for is overwhelming. Because of this, I’ve rounded up several home organizing solutions for more challenging projects in your home (many I have tried personally). Let’s start clearing the clutter room by room!
1. Quick Fixes for a Clutter-Free Living Room
1. Cable Management Kit: I’m a bit of an electronics nerd, so when we moved in, I wanted to make sure that our cords didn’t look like a hot mess. Cable management is not for the faint of heart, but when done right, it can look amazing. How you go about this will depend on your living situation, but I recommend a cable management kit with several different ways to hide and organize your cords effectively. I used the N Norocme cable management kit because it includes cable sleeves, adhesive clips and zip ties to make everything look great.
2. Cord and Power Strip Box: A cord and power strip box completes the setup to go along with your cable management kit. This made a big difference when I added it to our living room and home office. Yecaye offers a handy two-pack that will not only hide bulky power strips and cords but also help protect them from children and pets. It does take some time and effort to get everything looking good though. Sometimes thicker wires are a bit stubborn but with some patience, you’ll get it right!
3. Large Woven Basket Organizer: If you’re living room is adorned with blankets and pillows like ours, having a large woven basket is a godsend. This Deco 79 Seagrass handmade decorative basket not only looks great in most living rooms, but it also holds a ton of stuff! It’s perfect for towels, blankets, pillows or even toys. We also like the arched handles for easy transportation (it also doubles as a huge laundry basket!).
2. Organizing Solutions for a Tidy Bedroom
1. Cube Storage Organizer: These are great for kids toys! The real challenge is getting your little ones to actually put the toys back in their cubby. We have ours in our bedroom where I store resistance bands, a massage gun and pet supplies. Beyond that, cube storage is just a great way to clear any space quickly. Out of sight, out of mind! We got the Best Choice Products nine-cube organizer on Amazon. Just make sure you also get the cubbies to go inside!
2. Under-Bed Storage Container: If you’re looking to maximize storage in your bedroom, these under-bed storage containers will do the trick. Most of the time, this space is not used effectively (unless you have pets!). These Onlyeasy brand foldable bags hold blankets, clothing and many other items. They are also breathable so they should keep clothing items fresher, longer. They come in a pack of two.
3. Nightstand Organizer: Having a nightstand organizer is a great way to keep things tidy at the end of the day. Whether your nightstand has a drawer or you decide to put it on top, this bedside organizer from Justsoso tray will work. You can put jewelry, glasses, watches, phones and many other small trinkets. We like that it is padded in a soft velvet finish so it will protect your items from dust and scratching.
3. Unlock Kitchen Harmony With These Organizers
1. Dash Full Size Dish Rack: Having a dish rack helps keep your kitchen counters organized and more importantly, dry. While you may have a dishwasher that you can use, sometimes that machine is not as effective as it should be. There have been times where our dishwasher broke and we need something like this Dash dish rack where we can wash and dry items by hand. We like it because it has 3 separate compartments for plates, silverware and more delicate items like wine glasses.
2. Refrigerator Bins: I’ve used a great set of six for years to keep my fridge nice and neat. I like keeping pickles, cheese and other condiments in one bin. They also keep my sparkling water and diet soda organized. It makes me more efficient and use the space much better inside my refrigerator and freezer.
3. Kitchen and Pantry Baskets: This is a similar approach to the refrigerator bins but with a different material. I like these baskets because they go well with our wooden cabinets. It’s nice to just pull out one of the baskets when I need something and put it back right away. If the natural color isn’t your style, there are four other colors to fit your needs.
4. Conquer Closet Clutter With These Essential Organizers
1. Shoe Rack: While I have my fair share of shoes in the closet, it is nothing compared to my wife’s shoe collection! Keeping that in mind, we needed a solution that didn’t break the bank. A good quality shoe rack is well worth it because it maximizes your space and also looks a lot better. If you’re a household that takes off your shoes, these are also a great item to have next to your front door. The Simple Houseware three-tier rack is a great option because it holds nine pairs of shoes and is made of sturdy metal.
2. Wonder Hangers: If you’re closet is really tight on space, a 10-pack of wonder hangers is a great option to keep things organized. Amazingly (and dare I say, a wonder) that you can fit five clothing items on one hanger. They might not work as well with bulkier items but even then, you’ll still be saving space.
3. Hanging Purse Organizer: Every year for my wife’s birthday, I buy her a new purse. After nearly eigth years of marriage, she has a lot of purses! Thankfully, a hanging purse organizer helps keep things organized in the closet. With its ten-pocket capacity, it will be good for at least 10 birthday gifts! It looks like I’ll be buying another one soon!
5. Smart Bathroom Solutions for Organized Bliss
1. Shower Caddy: In our last apartment, our shower was tiny! To help out with this, my wife got a shower caddy to put all our toiletries, razors and scrubbing brushes. This premium shower caddy from Kincmax looks great, is made of rustproof stainless steel and holds a decent amount of items. It also mounts with an adhesive strip so you won’t have to mount or drill anything. The caddy was pretty easy to get off when we moved and just required a little bit of elbow grease.
2. Makeup Organizer: While my wife doesn’t have a ton of makeup, she has enough to warrant a makeup organizer like this one from Stori. It’s made of clear plastic and has four compartments for brushes, eyeshadow and any other makeup you need easy access to. My wife keeps her makeup organizer right next to the mirror in the bathroom and it is barely noticeable with how small it is.
3. Toilet Paper Stocker: If you want to give your bathroom a modern look while discreetly holding your TP, Yamazaki’s toilet paper dispenser makes a lot of sense. At first glance, you can barely tell what it is (until you turn it to the side). It also holds around eight to twelve toilet paper rolls, so you won’t have to fill it up as frequently as the typical three capacity holder.
6. Turn Chaos to Order With These Garage Must-Haves
1. Garage Overhead Storage Racks: Thankfully, there were overhead storage racks in our garage before we moved in. But if you want to maximize your space and storage in the garage, installing overhead racks is the way to go. They will take some effort to get up (some assembly required!) but it can totally transform the look and functionality of your garage!
2. Storage Bins: If you already have overhead storage racks in your garage (or went into the effort of installing them), you’re going to want to have neat storage bins to place up there. Even if you don’t and just want a place to store your stuff, these Sterilite yellow and black bins look great and hold a ton of stuff. They were extremely helpful during our recent move and I could even get three of them in my little Volkswagen GTI!
3. Storage Shelving Unit: If you’re not willing to install overhead storage racks in your garage (and frankly, I don’t blame you!), then this a storage shelving unit is the next best thing. It’s a four-tier unit and has a one-thousand pound capacity so it should be plenty for most items. However, I’ve used cheaper shelving units made of plastic that crack and fall apart in the past so investing a slightly more expensive metal unit will set you up for the long haul.
7. Boost Office Productivity With Organization
1. Document and File Storage Organizer: Because we’re in the heart of tax season, organizing your documents is more important than ever. We’re at high risk for fires being in Southern California, so we opted for a fireproof organizer. Also, there’s just something satisfying about having a clean desk free of documents every day. This Engpow fireproof document box is a great option because it can hold a ton of documents, has a pocket for passports up top, and can stand temperatures of up to 2000℉.
2. Stackable Clear Drawer Organizers: Over the years, I’ve accumulated an insane amount of junk in my office. This Stori stackable drawer organizer sets holds all my pens, pencils, sticky notes, scissors, stapler, paper clips and other small items I need easy access to. They are also a great way to keep colored pencils and pens organized if you’re an artist or a crafty person.
3. Two-Tier Monitor Stand and Organizer: To keep the top of your desk nice and tidy, having something like a two-tier monitor riser and desk organizer ticks two boxes. First, it can hold a smaller monitor or laptop. Second, it can hold notepads, pens, sticky notes and other items below. It also helps improve posture by keeping your monitor directly in front of your field of vision. Use it for a PC/laptop setup or as a great printer stand!
8. Essentials That Offer Maximum Laundry Room Efficiency
1. Shelf Dividers: When we moved into our new place, we finally had a proper laundry room! It has a few shelves but in order to maximum organization, we got these easy linen closet dividers. They slide into place easily and are one foot tall. While I’ll admit I don’t do much laundry, my wife says that these are great for towels, sheets and spare blankets for guests!
2. Cleaning and Linen Closet Bins: If there’s one thing I dread more than cleaning, it’s looking at all the cleaning supplies and linens around the house. Thankfully, we found this Amazon Basics wire organizer that can help keep everything in one place. I also like that you can stack them up in multiple ways depending on the size and shape of your home.
3. Broom and Mop Mount: Over the years, we’ve gathered quite a few dry and wet Swiffer mops, brooms and vacuum cleaners. Having a handy broom and mop mount helps clear the clutter of our linen closet. It also works great for a garage, kitchen or anywhere you need quick access to cleaning supplies! It holds up to thirty-five pounds so it should be enough for most items. It does require you to use screws and anchors to install but it can be done in a few minutes.
9. Bring Some Order to Your Outdoor Space
1. Outdoor Garden Workbench: If you have a green thumb like we do, having a workstation to keep all your gardening tools organized is key. An outdoor garden potting bench with a water resistant metal tabletop, an upper level for plants, and a cabinet/drawer for additional storage can be used for a lot different things, including entertaining.
2. Outdoor Storage Box: If you and your family spend a lot of time outside of your home on your deck, patio or backyard, keeping it clean and organized can be a chore. An outdoor storage box offers an easy solution to that problem. These are great for kids, toys, gardening, tools, patio furniture, and other outdoor items.
3. Shorage Shed: Depending on the size and shape of your outdoor space, this option will vary. We have a smaller option like a five-by-three foot shed, but you can literally add an entire room to your backyard with one of these (check your local zoning laws and HOA first!). The Patiowell option has a sloping roof, lockable door and is made of thick galvanized steel to help keep it long lasting.
