Fans of zombie and viral infection stories love the 28 Days Later movies, and were delighted to hear 28 Years Later would continue the story. Information about the movie has largely been under wraps, but Sony’s apparently ready to show what this sequel has to offer.
Earlier this morning, the studio put out a cryptic, 14-second teaser that mostly consists of Morse code being typed over a black screen. However, there’s some blink-and-you’ll-miss images that flash on screen, such as red skulls and the biohazard symbol. The most substantial are an establishing shot of an island connected to a long-land bridge, and a helmet with an arrow through it. As for the Morse code, comments on 28 Years Later’s Twitter account have seemingly sussed out that it translates to “Tuesday.” And given that Sony’s next big movie, Kraven the Hunter, hits theaters next Friday…you can connect some dots.
28 Years Later picks up with a new set of survivors (played by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jack O’Connell, among others) after the Rage Virus from the previous two films has flared back up again with a vengeance. According to Ralph Fiennes in October, the film will involve a young kid looking for someone to save his dying mother, and he’ll be playing the doctor the pair eventually meet. The film will also see the return of Cillian Murphy as 28 Days’ protagonist Jim, and the original creative duo Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have returned to direct and write the film, respectively.
If that Morse code is accurate, we’ll have a 28 Years Later trailer release sometime soon ahead of its release on June 20, 2025. Sony’s got two more sequels lined up after this, one of which is reportedly helmed by The Marvels’ Nia DaCosta.
