The fate of the 2025 Champions Trophy is still not known. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not announced a date for its next Board meeting. There are reports that it might take place in a few days. However, there hasn’t been a confirmation on ICC’s part yet.
Following a brief meeting on November 9, the ICC hinted at reconvening soon. However, it hasn’t happened yet. Even the top officials remain in the dark. The wait now centres on Jay Shah, the newly appointed ICC chairman. He will formally assume his role after the Dubai headquarters reopens later this week.
Why the Delay in the ICC Board Meeting?
One of the contentious issues has been if will Pakistan be the only host for the Champions Trophy. According to recent reports, the PCB has presented a new “Partnership Formula” or “Fusion Formula.”
Under this proposal, Pakistan seems open to the hybrid hosting model but with one condition: India, too, must adopt a similar arrangement for global tournaments over the next three years. Pakistan have put forward the demand for their games to also be held at neutral venues. This includes the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
The BCCI has not reacted so far to this proposal. However, any decision by the board would involve consulting with the Indian government. The Indian government has stuck to its stance on cricket ties with Pakistan.

ICC to Organize a Broadcasters Workshop on 5th December
Speculation points to a possible in-person meeting after December 5, once Jay Shah officially steps into his role. Though the virtual meeting technically might be held before then, the insiders at ICC seem quite uncertain about a final date.
To make things more exciting, the ICC has arranged for a broadcasters’ workshop scheduled on December 5 in Dubai. Media partners, including Jio Star from India, will attend this annual event. While updates on the Champions Trophy may emerge, ICC sources emphasize that the workshop is not specifically tied to the tournament.
