Corinne Foxx is feeling grateful for her father, Jamie Foxx, and the people who helped him recover from a terrifying health scare.
Jamie, 56, shared details about the stroke that put a pause on his career in his new Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was. Following the film’s Tuesday, December 10, release, Corinne, 30, took to Instagram to praise her father’s comeback project.
“I couldn’t be more proud of you @iamjamiefoxx. You created light from darkness,” she captioned behind-the-scenes snaps from the special, which was filmed in October. “You shared your truth, your story in the most beautiful and honest way. I will never forget those months of uncertainty and recovery. You were resilient, brave, strong … and funny. Even on the hard days, even when you didn’t remember it, you were always funny. It’s just who you are.”
Included in the post is a photo of Corinne and a man she revealed is the surgeon who “saved” Jamie’s life. “You were the funniest patient he’s ever had,” she wrote of her dad.
Corinne concluded her post by telling fans they are “in for a treat” with Jamie’s Netflix special, writing, “You get to see the brilliant man who raised me shine in his truth. Stream What Had Happened Was on @netflix today ❤️.”
Back in April 2023, Corinne broke the news that her famous father was receiving treatment for a “medical complication” amid production for his upcoming Netflix movie Back in Action. Keeping details of his condition under wraps, she revealed the following month that Jamie had been “out of the hospital for weeks.”
Jamie opened up about the cause of his health scare for the first time in What Had Happened Was, revealing that what he thought was a bad headache turned out to be a brain bleed that led to a stroke. “Before I could get the aspirin, I went out,” he told fans, explaining that he doesn’t remember what happened in the 20 days following the incident.
“What they told me was that they took me to the first doctor and that first doctor gave me a cortisone shot and sent me home,” he stated. “What the f— is that? I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star, n—-.”
In the special, Jamie thanked Corinne and his 16-year-old daughter, Anelise, for being his rock over the past year. “They held me the f— down. ‘Nobody sees him!’ They cut it all off,” he said. “They didn’t want you to see me like that, and I didn’t want you to see me like that. There’s another reason, too, why my daughter didn’t want nobody to see me. I was dizzy from the stroke. I was so dizzy, so my head would [shake]. She said, ‘They gon’ meme the f— out of this motherf—er.’” (Jamie shares Corinne with his ex Connie Kline and shares Anelise with his ex Kristin Grannis.)
In the aftermath of Jamie’s health scare, Corinne tied the knot with her husband, Joe Hooten, in September. Talking about her big day in an October interview with Vogue, Corinne said it was “incredibly special” that her dad was able to walk her down the aisle.
“My dad won his Oscar for playing [Ray Charles in Ray] in 2005. At 10 years old, I was his plus one and got to share that special moment with him,” she told the outlet. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we came down the aisle.”
Corinne noted that it was “never a question” that she would get married in Jamie’s backyard, stating, “He has the most gorgeous property. It already looks like a wedding venue. We couldn’t think of anywhere more special than a home wedding. It just felt right.”
