Destiny 2 is Ending 2025 With a Star Wars Crossover Season

Across its 10-year history, Destiny has always looked toward the future, be it a new gun, location, or power scale. What next adventure awaits the Guardians? A galaxy far, far away, apparently.

During its livestream reveal for the upcoming Destiny 2 season—Edge of Fate, kicking off July 15—Bungie gave a short teaser for the season to follow, Renegades. Turns out it’s a Star Wars crossover: one Guardian brandishes Han Solo’s iconic blaster pistol, and another ignites a lightsaber, followed by some familiar text and the view of a desert planet.

Destiny 2 has crossed over with different IP in recent years, including Fortnite, The Witcher, and Mass Effect. Its last dalliance with Star Wars actually wasn’t that long ago; earlier this year, players could buy armor that made them look like different Imperial Troopers. Bungie’s recap notes Renegades is “inspired” by Star Wars and is a key part of the Fate Saga first and foremost, so players should expect the season to advance the larger Destiny 2 plot.

Still, this is a marked difference from the shooter’s previous crossovers. Making this into a sizable expansion raises new questions about the future of Destiny 2, ditto Star Wars’ expansion into gaming between this and its current in-game Fortnite event. With mainline Star Wars games potentially coming at a reliable cadence, are crossovers like these a way for Disney to keep the franchise in gamers’ minds?

Destiny 2: Renegades will get a full reveal September 9, followed by its release December 2.
