Eva Longoria Doubts Desperate Housewives Reboot Due to Marc Cherry

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria would happily play Gabrielle Solis again — but one major roadblock stands in the way.

Marc Cherry, our creator,” Longoria, 50, said on the Monday, April 28, episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

According to the actress, out of everyone involved in the hit show, Cherry would need the most convincing to revisit the secrets, scandals and sex on Wisteria Lane.

“He feels like we’ve exhausted the characters,” Longoria explained. “It’s unlike Sex and the City [where] it was only, like, 6, 8 episodes a year. We did 24 episodes a year for a decade.”

Apples up! Desperate Housewives premiered in 2004 — and hooked fans into the drama surrounding the women of Wisteria Lane. The Marc Cherry-created mystery comedy-drama made its debut on ABC October 3, 2004, with main cast members Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer), Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo), Marcia Cross (Bree Van de Kamp) and Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) […]

“I can’t sleep with any more people on that street!” she went on to quip. “Like, I have slept with every single person on the street. As did Nicolette Sheridan,” she added, referring to her costar who played Edie Britt.

While Longoria isn’t sure what’s left for her character, fellow WWHL guest Sandra Bernhard pitched a potential story line for Gabrielle.

“Did you sleep with women on the show? We could do a quick half a season [to that],” the comedian suggested.

Longoria responded, “We’ve got to convince Marc Cherry.”

Desperate Housewives captured the attention of the public for eight seasons — but the behind-the-scenes drama has kept people talking. The ABC series premiered in 2004 and was created by Marc Cherry. Starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria, the show followed a group of women living on the same fictional street […]

For his part, Cherry said he would be interested in a Desperate Housewives reboot — but not in the present day.

“I would probably want to do the idea, maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane,” he told People in November 2024.

“That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street,” he explained. “I know that street like the back of my hand. When someone shoots a commercial on that street, I know it instantly, because I know all those houses, I know the geography. It was such a fun place to write for.”

Desperate Housewives aired for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012 and followed the dramatic lives of a group of neighbors after one of their pals mysteriously died. Longoria starred alongside Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross as the main four protagonists. Sheridan, Dana Delany, Vanessa Williams and Brenda Strong were also part of the cast.

While the comedy-drama became a major hit, rumors of behind-the-scenes feuds between its stars cast a shadow on the show. Longoria opened up about her connection to her former costars while celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary, telling the Daily Mail in June 2024, “I talk to Felicity all the time. I talk to Marcia a lot. But the one probably I talk to most is Ricardo [Chavira], my [onscreen] husband. And Jesse [Metcalfe].”
