Get Pumped for Squid Game 2 After Reading These First Reactions

You’re three years older than you were when you first saw Squid Game. And now, that older, wiser version of yourself is about to get an older, wiser version of the show. Squid Game 2 drops on Netflix December 26 and it picks up the story of Seong Gi-hun (The Acolyte‘s Lee Jung-jae) who won big during the first set of games. Gi-hun wants to bring the whole thing down though and he’ll stop at nothing to do so. Even when it means going back to the games himself.

The second season of the show was just nominated for Best Drama by the Golden Globes, a hint that Netflix has allowed press and critics groups to check it out. And as such, that means eventually those people can go on social media and talk about it. Here are some reactions, starting with yours truly.

So yes, I liked it. I think the fact you know broadly what’s coming does change things a bit, but the show wisely uses that to its advantage to subvert your expectations time and time again. But that’s just one person’s opinion. Let’s grab some others.

There you have it. Near universal praise, at least from the handful of journalists who’ve seen it. And we’re sure to hear more in the coming weeks as we get close to its December 26 premiere. Here’s the official Netflix description:

Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, once again helms the series as director, writer, and producer. Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo reprise their roles from Season 1 with an impeccable list of new cast members including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an rounding out the ensemble of colorful characters in the new season.
