Home Alone launched the career of Macaulay Culkin — and three decades later, fans are still quoting the iconic 1990s Christmas film.
“Christmas is my time of year,” Culkin exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2019. “I get recognized 10 times more between the months of November and January. I have no idea why.”
The former child star, who played Kevin McCallister in the holiday movie, noted that the worst aspect of the festive season is that he’s “on TV every two seconds,” which he explained is a “beautiful curse/a tricky blessing.”
Culkin isn’t the only actor from the ’90s movie and its 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, that gets recognized. Catherine O’Hara, who plays Kevin’s mom, Kate McCallister, told the Star in November 2015 that she is “grateful to be a part of someone’s Christmas ritual.”
Three years later, she told InStyle that “from November through December ‘tis the season for Home Alone!”
Many of the stars are still in touch. O’Hara presented at Culkin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in December 2023. One year later, the actors who played Culkin’s onscreen siblings and cousins reunited without him. Devin Ratray, Kristen Minter, Michael Maronna, Angela Goethels and Jed Cohen posed with a cardboard cutout of the absent actor at a December 2024 event in New Jersey.
