Fitness influencer Miguel Angel Aguilar died three months after he was shot during an armed robbery. He was 43.
Aguilar’s fitness company, Self Made, confirmed his death in a Saturday, December 21, social media statement.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our founder and CEO, Miguel Angel Aguilar,” the note read via Instagram. “After a courageous three-month battle following the tragic incident that took place on September 13th, 2024, Miguel peacefully passed away on December 21st, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.”
Aguilar was shot in Bel-Air, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, in September during an attempted robbery, according to local news outlet KTLA. Local police told the outlet that four men approached Aguilar and “demanded property.”
“One of the suspects produced a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him multiple times,” a police spokesperson said in a statement, adding that the four individuals subsequently fled the scene.
According to a Self Made social media statement at the time, Aguilar was later taken to the hospital.
“We are heartbroken to share that Miguel was involved in a serious incident last night. He sustained a gunshot injury and is currently fighting bravely in the intensive care unit,” an Instagram update read on September 14. “Miguel is a beloved individual, and his strength, leadership, accomplishments, and resilience have inspired many. We know that he is surrounded by the love and support of his family, friends, all of you, and we are confident in his ability to overcome this.”
Self Made further asked social media followers for “prayers, positive thoughts and support for Miguel and his loved ones.”
Aguilar is survived by his wife, Priscilla Valles, and their two daughters.
“Miguel was more than just a leader; he was a visionary, an inspiration, a mentor, a father, a husband, family, and a dear friend to many,” the Self Made obituary read on Saturday. “His unwavering dedication to Self Made Training Facility, his passion for the fitness industry and entrepreneurial spirit have left an enduring legacy.
