Is Ravichandran Ashwin Playing Today’s 2nd Test of India tour of Australia 2024

Ravichandran Ashwin is playing today against Australia in the Second Test at Adelaide. India is taking on the Aussies for the Pink Ball Test at the Adelaide Oval. Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first.

“We are going to bat first. Looks a good pitch, looks a bit dry at the moment, enough grass covering as well. It’ll have some carry for the fast bowlers. As the game goes on, it’ll get better to bat on. There will be something in it for everyone. It’s going to be a good game. I have been here for two weeks now. Had a good hit in the nets, played a game as well, ready to go now.”, he said.

However, as the Indian Team was announced, it was revealed that India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is playing today against Australia.

Ashwin Replaces Washington Sundar in Adelaide

Ravichandran Ashwin has replaced Washington Sundar in the Playing XI. Washington Sundar was India’s lone spinner in the First test in Perth. However, since Ashwin gets more turn than Sundar, he has replaced him in the Playing XI for the Pink ball Test.

Ashwin did not feature in India’s Playing XI for the First Test in Perth as well. While Ravindra Jadeja got to bowl 5 overs during the practice match against PM’s XI, Ashwin didn’t even get a chance to play then too. Ashwin is currently the third-ranked bowler in ICC’s Test Rankings.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill Return for Pink Ball Test

The good news for the Indian team has been the return of captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the squad. Rohit missed the First Test following the birth of his second child-a baby boy. Even though Rohit is back, he has confirmed that KL Rahul will open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill injured his thumb ahead of the First Test and was forced to sit out. He has not fully recovered and is back in the Indian team. Despite the absence of these two stars, the Indian team managed to win the First Test in Perth by a mammoth 295-run margin. India’s stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah shined with the ball, pickin’ up 8 wickets in the game. Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli hit centuries, with crucial knocks from KL Rahul and Nitish Kumar Reddy as well.
