NYPD Blue’s Kim Delaney Headed to Trial Over Alleged Hit-And-Run

Former NYPD Blue star Kim Delaney is set to face off with a man accusing her of a hit-and-run that left him injured, Us Weekly can exclusively report.

According to court documents obtained by Us, the actress, 63, and Dzhamal Badalov, who accuses her of fleeing the scene of a crash on November 6, 2022, asked the court to set the trial for January 12, 2026.

The trial was scheduled to go down in September, but Delaney’s recent felony arrest following an incident with her husband, James Morgan, appears to have caused issues.

Badalov’s lawyer explained, “A criminal action against [Delaney] temporarily impacted and delayed” his ability to obtain discovery from Delaney, including her deposition.

Back in January 2024, Badalov filed his lawsuit against Delaney, accusing her of causing an accident in Los Angeles and then fleeing.

In his complaint, Badalov said on November 6, 2022, Delaney — who is most known for her six-season run on NYPD Blue but more recently appeared on General Hospital and Chicago Fire — was “witnessed” swerving throughout the streets of Mar Vista, California, in her black Mercedes.

He alleged, “Other motorists on the street witnessed [Delaney] driving erratically and attempted to stop [Delaney] by trying to get her attention.”

The suit claimed Delaney continued to drive “erratically down Venice Boulevard without staying in the street lanes and swerving into the concrete median in the middle of the street.”

Badalov claimed witnesses saw Delaney approach the intersection where he was on his motorcycle. He said the third parties saw Delaney crash into his vehicle which caused him to “be thrown off his motorcycle and land onto the street.”

He claimed that after the crash, witnesses rushed over to Delaney’s car and “asked her to step out of the vehicle.”

Per the suit, the actress refused to cooperate and tried to drive away. Badalov said he took photos of the scene because he was afraid Delaney would flee.

He said once Delaney exited her car “barefoot” and “appeared intoxicated because” she was “not able to walk properly, her eyes appeared unable to stop moving in all direction as if she was unable to control them, her balance looked unsteady, and she was slurring while attempting to speak.”

Badalov claimed he noticed a “strong smell of alcohol coming from” Delaney and her car. He said Delaney then called someone on her phone.

“Witnesses told [Delaney] and the person on the other end of the call that it was not safe for [Delaney] to continue driving and that she needed to be picked up,” the suit alleged.

Badalov claimed the person who Delaney called offered to pay him money in exchange for him not calling the police. He said he refused the offer which led to the person on the phone telling Delaney to drive away, per the suit.

The lawsuit claimed Delaney got into her car and “erratically drove off, striking the concrete median while fleeing.”

Badalov accused the actress of “deliberately” driving her car while intoxicated and/or otherwise under the influence of alcohol.

The lawsuit demanded unspecified damages for Badalov’s alleged “serious bodily injuries, pain and suffering.”

Delaney denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Her lawyer argued that any injuries were caused by third parties outside her control.

The case has had no real movement, until this month, since late 2024.

Back in March, Delaney was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department after an incident with her husband turned physical. Both Delaney and Morgan were arrested and released on bond.

A couple of weeks later, TMZ reported the District Attorney decided not to press charges against the actress or her partner.
