Odell Beckham Jr. is mourning the loss of former Louisiana State University wide receiver Kyren Lacy just hours after news of the young player’s death went public.
“Rest easy lil bro,” the NFL star wrote in a post shared via his Instagram Story on Sunday, April 13, along with a dove emoji.
In another Instagram Story, Beckham Jr., 32, shared a candid photo of the pair posing for the camera in a nondescript locker room. In the pic, the pair stand shoulder-to-shoulder while Beckham Jr. flashes his teeth and the late LSU player flaunts a No. 2 diamond chain.
Lacy’s family confirmed his death to local Louisiana outlet WAFB9 on Sunday. He was 24. No cause of death has been revealed at the time of publication. Us Weekly has reached out for comment.
The former wide receiver — who in December was considered the No. 6 wide receiver headed into the 2025 NFL draft — was facing legal trouble following his alleged involvement in a December 2024 fatal car accident. That month, the former athlete was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. At the time, authorities believed Lacy might have caused the fatal accident before fleeing the scene.
“As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge,” a press release from the Louisiana State Police read. “Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.”
At the time, Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, told ESPN in a statement that his client was “fully cooperating with the authorities.” He was released on a $151,000 bond and a grand jury was scheduled to begin hearing evidence on Monday, April 14 — the day after the football player’s death was confirmed.
Lacy maintained his innocence up until his untimely death.
“As the defense attorney for Kyren Lacy, I wish to address the charges of negligent homicide and clarify the facts surrounding this tragic incident,” Lacy’s lawyer, Matthew Ory, said in a statement in February. “On the day of the accident, Mr. Lacy was driving on a road with two lanes, one in each direction. While he briefly passed other vehicles, he safely reentered his lane without incident.”

Two days after his release, Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL draft.
“LSU has truly made a big impact on my life on and off the field these past three years,” he wrote in an Instagram statement. “Playing in Death Valley, for the best fans in the country was an experience I will never forget. Not too many people get to fulfill a dream like this. I am forever grateful for it.”
He added, “I am so appreciative of my support system (family, trainers, mentors, etc) who have been there for me through the highs and the lows. Thank y’all for always believing in me! With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft!”
In addition to Beckham Jr., the LSU football team paid tribute to Lacy following news of his death.
“The LSU Football family mourns the loss of Kyren Lacy,” a post on the team’s official X page read, along with a photo of the young athlete.
