While a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, Savannah Guthrie and host Drew Barrymore made a permanent and lasting decision — to get tattoos.
While they are not matching friendship tattoos, Guthrie said it was longtime friend Barrymore’s persuasion that convinced her to finally go for it.
In a March 12 video shared on Instagram, Guthrie said she hopes her spontaneity lands her photo on one of the walls of the studio.
“If I get a tattoo, live on the air with Drew, I better end up in this wall,” Guthrie added.

“And by the way, this is my second tattoo with Drew,” she continued. “I should have two pictures on this wall. I only get tattoos with Drew.”
In addition to the tattoo she got on camera this week, Guthrie also has the words, “All my love,” on one of her forearms.
Her second tattoo was an homage to her two children, 10-year-old Vale and 8-year-old Charley, who designed the tattoo by drawing two hearts. Tattoo artist Jonboy transferred the art from paper to Guthrie’s other forearm.
“They have to be similar size, or else they’ll think I like one more than the other,” Guthrie joked while discussing the ink with artist Jonboy. “It’s a thing.”
Guthrie joked that her daughter Vale can’t understand why she’s also getting tattoos every time she’s around Barrymore, after admitting she was “never a tattoo.”
“My daughter says, ‘Mom, every time you see Drew, you get a tattoo.’ Which is not true,” Guthrie said.
And Barrymore is aware of Vale’s disapproval.
“Vale is like, ‘Why does my mom always get a tattoo with you?’ Because we’re doing tattoos for Savannah that are all family-oriented. It’s meaningful,” Barrymore said.

While in the process of getting the tattoo, Barrymore and Guthrie talked about their children and certain decisions they were making on their kids’ behalf.
Barrymore said she was struggling with where to send her two daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, to school. Luckily, Barrymore said she received the perfect advice from Guthrie.
“You know, it’s easy to get caught up,” Guthrie said, recanting what she told Barrymore during their breakfast conversation. “And whether it’s about what fancy school you think your kids need to go to, when I was saying to you, ‘Drew like I feel so grateful every single day to wake up and get to be the anchor the Today show. But there’s nothing about my background that would have suggested that could ever be possible.’”
“I grew up in Tucson, Arizona. I didn’t have any connections,” Guthrie continued. “I went to a big public high school. I got average grades. I ditched school 35 times my senior year and got suspended. You know, I mean, it’s like, but eventually, it all kind of works out.”
Both Guthrie and Barrymore, who got “time” written in her own handwriting, were pleased with their new body art.
