Travis Head Reacts to Gavaskar’s Josh Hazlewood Injury Remarks

Australia’s explosive left-handed batter Travis Head has taken a swipe at Sunil Gavaskar’s recent remarks about Josh Hazlewood’s injury. Gavaskar, a legendary figure in cricket, suggested there might be underlying tension in the Australian camp after Hazlewood’s sudden withdrawal from the second Test in Adelaide due to a side strain.

In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar speculated about Hazlewood’s injury, noting that the bowler showed no visible discomfort during a media interaction in Perth. “The Australian squad seems tense, with former players advocating changes,” Gavaskar wrote.

However, Head wasn’t impressed. He brushed aside the comments on The Willow Talk Podcast, labelling them “pretty funny.” He said, “I was surprised at Sunny’s comments. Dropping ‘Hoff’ and throwing a couple of daggers… but who cares? Everyone is paid to have an opinion.”

Head didn’t hold back. He described Gavaskar’s comments as a way to stir up unnecessary drama. “He’s in the entertainment business,” Head said. “If stirring the pot makes it fun for him, then go for it.”

Hazlewood’s side strain is a significant blow to Australia. Known for his lethal precision, Hazlewood had starred in the first Test, bagging four wickets in the opening innings. His absence leaves a gap in the Australian pace attack, especially in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide, where he previously decimated India for 36 runs in a historic performance.

The injury has forced the team to recalibrate. Australia have named Scott Boland in the Playing XI for the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide. Boland has taken 35 wickets in 10 Tests. However, Hazlewood’s shoes would be big to fill for Boland. Hazlewood has been a part of 8 Pink Ball Tests. He has taken 37 wickets at an astonishing average of 18.86. Last time when India played Australia in a Pink Ball Test at this venue, Hazlewood took a 5-fer as the Aussies managed to bowl India out for just 36.
