Vinod Kambli Accepts Kapil Dev’s Offer, Ready to Enter Rehab

Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, has accepted Kapil Dev’s offer to enter rehab for the 15th time. Facing a tough financial situation, Kambli expressed his willingness to take this crucial step. Kapil Dev, along with his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates, extended support to help Kambli recover, provided he commits to rehabilitation. This gesture has brought a ray of hope for Kambli, who openly welcomed the opportunity.

Kambli’s Struggle with Finances and Health

Kambli’s financial condition is currently challenging. He revealed that his only steady income is the BCCI’s monthly pension of ₹30,000, which he uses to support his family, including two children. Kambli admitted that his financial state is “bad” but credited his wife for managing everything bravely.

Despite enduring a health scare recently, Kambli is determined to turn his life around. Speaking to Vickey Lalwani on YouTube, Kambli said, “I have no hesitation to enter rehab. As long as I have my family with me, I’m not afraid of anything. I will complete it and come back stronger.”

Support from the Cricket Fraternity

The Indian cricket community has come forward to support Kambli. Ajay Jadeja, a close friend and former teammate, visited him and motivated him to take charge of his life. Former cricketer Abey Kuruvilla, who is associated with the BCCI, has also stayed in touch with Kambli and his wife, assuring them of support if needed.

The BCCI has a history of helping former players. Earlier this year, the board sanctioned ₹1 crore for the treatment of Anshuman Gaekwad. Kambli remains optimistic that the board will assist him if required.

Acknowledging Past Mistakes

Kambli candidly admitted that his troubles stemmed from excessive drinking. However, he clarified that he has been sober for the past six months, making this change for the sake of his children. His friend and former umpire Marcus Couto confirmed this.

“I stopped drinking and smoking six months ago. I did it for my kids. I used to drink earlier, but I have left it behind,” said Kambli.

Turning Over a New Leaf

The cricket legend made headlines recently during the unveiling of Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial, where his struggles were evident. However, with Kapil Dev and the cricket fraternity’s backing, Kambli is determined to overcome his challenges. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and is ready to rebuild his life.
