Why Joshua Jackson Feels Sympathy for His Estranged Late Father

After having a daughter of his own, Joshua Jackson finally has some clarity on his relationship with his late father.

“I am now a grown man with a child. I have my father who I never became close with, [who] also passed away,” the Doctor Odyssey star, 46, said on the Monday, April 21, episode of Sony Music Entertainment’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson. “And I find myself for the first time with a great deal of sympathy for him.”

Jackson is the son of John Carter and Fiona Jackson. After his father left the family, Joshua and his siblings were raised by his mom. Despite having years of resentment, the Dawson’s Creek alum explained on Monday that he now has a sense of remorse after considering how the pair’s estrangement must have had an effect on his dad.

“Because the pain that he must have lived with,” he continued. “To have four children in the world and essentially no relationship with any of them.”
