In 2022, comedian Zach Cregger made his feature film debut with Barbarian, and we’ve been waiting for his next original movie before he jumps over to Resident Evil. That would be Weapons—which recently got a first glimpse at CinemaCon and now has a grand, ARG-involved reveal ahead of its summer release. A teaser released ahead of Sinners over the weekend, and now WB’s posted it online.
The horror thriller stars Julia Garner as Justine, a schoolteacher who shows up to work and finds nearly all of her students are gone. Children in the small town of Maybrook seemingly woke up overnight at 2:17 am, then disappeared into the woods. Security footage shows them running in a weird way, but where did they go and why?
That’s the question, but it’s not the only mystery in the film, which seems to span corrupt cops and strange supernatural stuff of the religious and witchcraft variety. Intriguingly, according to the film’s “Maybrook Missing” tie-in site, Weapons is also seemingly connected to Barbarian in some capacity—but it’s unclear if there’s anything more beyond one referencing the events of the other.
Weapons releases on August 8, and also stars Josh Brolin, Austin Abrams, June Diane Raphael, Benedict Wong, and Alden Ehrenreich.
